€ 223 billion in damages caused by cyberattacks in Germany
In 2021, the German economy incurred costs of 223 billion euros to address the damage caused by cyberattacks. That amounts to 6% of Germany’s gross domestic product (GDP)!
According to a European Union estimate, the global cost of cyberattacks in 2021 amounted to 5.5 trillion euros. That is about 5% of the global gross domestic product—in other words, the total value of humanity’s entire economy!

Extortion & Cybercrime
Criminals exploit security vulnerabilities for extortion and ransomware attacks. Over 85% of companies and as many as 96% of all government agencies in Germany rely on Microsoft systems. The damage caused by cybercriminals already exceeded 100 billion euros in 2019.
